佐々木桔梗は書物へ傾倒するきっかけに、江川書房版『ルウベンスの偽画』（1933年、堀辰雄）、野田書房版『窄き門』（1937年、ジッド）の2冊をあげている。この2冊は、過度の装飾をさけ、素材に徹底的にこだわり、本としての読みやすさを追求した「純粋造本」の代表として高い評価を受けている。 プレス・ビブリオマーヌにもその影響はみられ、限られたストロークから仕上げられた本書にもピリッとした神経がいきとどき、読み手に緊張感をあたえるようなつくりになっている。『乳房』の作者、ラモン・ゴメス・デ・ラ・セルナは不遇の作家だった。1888年、ラモンはスペインの上流階級の家にうまれた。オビエド大学の法学部を卒業したのち、パリで仕事を探したが見つからなかった。そのかわりに父親は、息子のために雑誌「プロメテウス」（1908-1912）を創刊。「プロメテウス」ではラモンの前衛劇作品のほか、グールモン、ワイルド、ダヌンツィオ、メーテルランク、ローダンバックといった世紀末のパリで活躍した文士たちの作品の翻訳、マリネッティ書き下ろしの「スペイン人に向けた未来主義宣言」が掲載された。
