Each spring, Chicago awakens with a progression of blooms that has shaped the citys seasonal identity for more than a century. In March, magnolias from the early 1900s still open along the Gold Coast and Near North Side. In April, the citys iconic tulips (more than 700,000 bulbs are planted each fall) wash the streets, parks, and medians in color.
