There is some fraying of the adjustable leather strap and one side of the basket top has come loose and has been tied back together with fishing wire (please note photo #4)

It is a basket fly fishermen used (and some still use) to keep their catch cool. It was often lined with moss and dipped into the cold waters of the creek or river. Caught fish were then inserted through the slot in the top and kept cool as the fisherman continued fishing.
